How the check works
Many people with high blood pressure do not know they have it. Checking is quick and painless.
- Sit and relaxWe ask you to rest for a few minutes so we get an accurate reading.

Before your appointment
- Avoid caffeine and exercise for 30 minutes before
- Wear a top with loose sleeves
- Bring your medicines list if you take any
Afterwards

- Follow any advice to see your GP
- Come back for regular checks

How long does it take?Usually about 10 minutes, including a few minutes of rest before the reading.
What is a normal reading?Usually below 140/90 when measured in a pharmacy or GP practice. We explain your result.
What if my reading is high?We advise on next steps, which may include seeing your GP or a 24-hour monitor.
